Valerio Caprara
Professor of History and Film Criticism.
He was Professor of History and Criticism of Cinema at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University of Naples “L’Orientale” and the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Naples “Suor Orsola Benincasa”. Since 1979 he is a film critic for the newspaper “Il Mattino”. A scholar of modern and contemporary Italian cinema and of the classical genres of American cinema, he is the author of numerous books and monographs. He has written and writes catalogs, yearbooks and encyclopedias (including the Cinema Encyclopedia and the Biographical Dictionary of Italians, Treccani) and is the author of the documentary film Incontro con Dino Risi, 2001, produced for the Archive of Memory of the School series. National Cinema-CSC. He has written in the main national specialized magazines (from “Black and White” to “Segnocinema”, “Filmcritica” and “La Rivista del Cinematografo”); he won the Meccoli prize at Assisi in 1997, the Flaiano in Pescara in 2009 and the De Sica in Rome in 2015; he has been the author of texts and conductor in voice and video of numerous RAI programs and since 2007 he is a regular guest on the broadcast “Cinematografo” broadcast on RaiUno. Artistic director of the Sorrento International Film Meetings from 1983 to 2000, he took care of the sections of the Cinema and History Meeting of San Marino and the Giffoni Film Festival. In 1985 the Ministry of Culture of the French Republic awarded him the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. From 2011 to 2016 he was a member of the cinematography commission at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and from 2010 to 2018 he was President of the Campania Region Film Commission Foundation.
